Pride Rainbow Ambrose Day
John Hartland Memorial Event
Celebrating Diversity and Community
On Wednesday, June 12th, 2024, Marrickville Veterans Golf Association proudly hosted the second annual Pride Rainbow Ambrose Day at Marrickville Golf Course. This special event, organised by Kevin Gardner and supported by Gary Rowley, John Hartland's partner, was a vibrant celebration of inclusivity, community spirit, and golfing prowess.
A Day of Fun and Solidarity
The festivities kicked off with an enthusiastic shotgun start at 8:00 am, as 55 players braved the slightly soggy Marrickville Golf Course, adorned in dazzling rainbow-themed outfits that truly captured the spirit of the day. Andrew Tighe, Club President, opened the event with an acknowledgment of country, welcoming participants to a day filled with camaraderie and competitive play.
Golf, Charity, and Commemoration
The Ambrose involved teams of four players competing over 18 holes, a lively competition where skill and teamwork were on full display. After the last putt was sunk, players gathered in the clubhouse for a sumptuous luncheon prepared by the talented chefs Dave and Josh, and staff from Wharf Street Kitchen.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
Proceeds from Pride Rainbow Ambrose Day went to support the vital work of the Aboriginal Woman and Children’s Crisis Service and were presented to Shania, a team leader from the service, on the day.
Recognition and Celebration
The highlight of the day came with the awards ceremony, where Gary Rowley, and Ruby Royale, who made a glamorous entrance, present the many prizes. Prizes were awarded to players for their skills to best decorated buggy, including the undefeated team of Dane, Cristiane, Dianne, and Denis.
Gratitude and Acknowledgment
The success of Pride Rainbow Ambrose Day would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors and volunteers. From Gary Rowley to Raine & Horne Marrickville, Terry Smith of the Rainbow Golfers, Kylie from Entire Golf, Wharf St Kitchen and many others who contributed prizes and resources, their commitment ensured a memorable and impactful event.
Thank you to Sabrina Mooney and her team of painters for the freshly painted Rainbow Tree. Special thanks to Elizabeth Ivory for the delicious rainbow cake, a sweet reminder that in golf and in life, every swing—whether a birdie or bogey—can be made with pride.
A heartfelt thanks to all who participated, organised, and supported this event, we look forward to continuing this tradition of solidarity and fun in the years to come.
Join us next year as we tee off once more for a day of golf, friendship, and support for our community.
